Dr. Joseph Bisignano originally grew up in Brooklyn NY, and graduated from New York University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Biochemistry in 2006. He attended veterinary school at Western University of Health Sciences, graduating in 2010. He went on to complete his internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, followed by completion of his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Bisignano is a board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine with advanced training in laparoscopic and minimally invasive urology procedures. Throughout his career in the metropolitan Los Angeles region, he has engaged in sustained clinical practice and has held the position of Department Head of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Bisignano has a special interest in interventional endourology and is among a select group of veterinarians in Los Angeles trained in advanced, minimally invasive urinary procedures. He performs laser lithotripsy, percutaneous cystolithotomies (PCCL), and laser ablation of ectopic ureters, as well as cystoscopic treatments for urinary incontinence. These minimally invasive techniques offer faster recovery, less discomfort, and improved outcomes compared to traditional surgery. Dr. Bisignano provides consultations on minimally invasive stone removal, urinary incontinence management, congenital urinary disorders, and long-term strategies for preventing urinary stone disease in both dogs and cats.

Beyond urology, Dr. Bisignano manages endocrine, gastrointestinal, liver, and kidney conditions. He has a particular passion for marine mammal medicine, drawing on experience as a marine mammal trainer and veterinary preceptor at the New York Aquarium, Dolphin Quest Hawaii, and the U.S. Navy Marine Mammal Program in San Diego. He also serves on the Medical Advisory Board for the Los Angeles Zoo and consults on the care of the incredible species under their care.

Dr. Bisignano has authored multiple research publications on feline endocrine disease, inflammatory bowel disease in dogs, minimally invasive urinary interventions in cats, and gastrointestinal disorders in marine mammals. He has also contributed several textbook chapters and clinical algorithms on the management and prevention of urinary stone disease.

Outside of his professional work, Dr. Bisignano enjoys a full and active life with his partner and their son. As a family, they love traveling and exploring new countries, especially those with beautiful beaches, islands, and tropical landscapes. Discovering local cuisines is always part of the adventure, and Dr. Bisignano brings those inspirations home—he’s an avid home cook who enjoys recreating dishes from their travels (with varying levels of success!).

His home is ruled by Shorty, a small but undeniably bossy Maltese that makes up for her size in personality. She keeps a close eye on all family activities, and is only slightly jealous when her humans jet off on tropical getaways without her.
